THE GREAT EARTHQUAKE IN SAN FRANCISCO
October 8, 1865.
From The Daily Alta California
The unfinished four-story brick (Popper's) southeast corner of Third and Mission streets.
Two-thirds of the entire front on Third street, and a portion of the rear
fire-wall, are down.
The street has been fenced up to prevent accidents in case of the falling of any more of the wall. It is not probable that the entire building will need to be demolished.
A frame dwelling on Mission street, adjoining Popper's building, had its peaked roof knocked into a cocked hat by the falling bricks from the east wall of Popper's building.
