This pass, found in the National Archives, is a minor mystery because it is the first – and only – indication that Mayor Schmitz was assigned a military aide, possibly by General Funston. Captain E.O.C. Ord was probably a descendent of famed Civil War general Edward Otho Cresap Ord, who died in 1883.
